Year of the Rabbit Meaning

The Year of the Rabbit describes someone gentle and quietly clever. The Rabbit is the fourth animal of the Chinese zodiac, and people born in a Rabbit year are said to avoid conflict, read people well and find the calm, elegant way through a difficult situation.

What it means

The Rabbit is the sign of grace and diplomacy. Rabbit people tend to notice the mood of a room and adjust to it, and they would rather solve a problem with charm than with force. They often have good taste and like a peaceful, comfortable home. Under the soft manner there is usually a careful strategist who thinks several steps ahead.

Strengths

Diplomacy, kindness, good judgment, artistic taste and a gift for keeping the peace.

Challenges

Avoiding confrontation, caution that turns into indecision, sensitivity to criticism and a habit of retreating when things get hard.

Rabbit years and dates

A Rabbit year starts at Lunar New Year, not on January 1. Rabbit years since 1950: Metal Rabbit, February 6, 1951 to January 26, 1952; Water Rabbit, January 25, 1963 to February 12, 1964; Wood Rabbit, February 11, 1975 to January 30, 1976; Fire Rabbit, January 29, 1987 to February 16, 1988; Earth Rabbit, February 16, 1999 to February 4, 2000; Metal Rabbit, February 3, 2011 to January 22, 2012; Water Rabbit, January 22, 2023 to February 9, 2024. The next Rabbit year, a Wood Rabbit, starts on February 8, 2035. If you were born in January or February, check the start date: a birthday before it belongs to the year before.

Element

Every Rabbit year also carries one of five elements, which cycle so the same element and animal meet only once every 60 years. A Rabbit born in 1987 is a Fire Rabbit. The Rabbit also has a fixed element of its own, Wood, and is a yin sign.

Best and hardest matches

Traditional Chinese astrology puts the twelve animals in four groups of three, and in six opposite pairs. The Rabbit gets on most easily with the Goat and the Pig, the other two in its group. Its opposite is the Rooster, six years apart, which is said to bring the most friction.

How Cosmic Array reads it

Cosmic Array reads your animal next to your Western Sun sign. Together they give your Primal Zodiac, one of 144 combinations: a Libra Sun born in a Rabbit year, for example, is a Luna Moth. The Architect blueprint shows your animal, its element and your Primal Zodiac, worked out from the exact Lunar New Year date, and reads them against the rest of your chart.
