Ik Mayan Day Sign Meaning

Ik is the second day sign of the Maya Tzolkin, the sign of wind and breath, called Iq' in K'iche'. People born on an Ik day are said to be quick, expressive and hard to pin down. Like the wind, they can carry a message gently or arrive as a storm.

What it means

The Ik glyph is a T shape that Mayanists link to breath and to the wind god. Breath is life, and it is also speech, so the sign is read as communication: ideas carried from one person to the next. K'iche' daykeepers count Iq' among the four year bearers, the days that can begin and name a solar year. They also say Iq' people have a temper that blows up fast and dies down just as fast. In a reading, Ik points to someone who needs to move and to talk things out.

Strengths

Clear, lively speech, a mind that picks ideas out of the air, a talent for lifting the mood of a room, and an idealism that keeps nudging people toward something better.

Challenges

A short fuse, restlessness, and words that leave the mouth before they have been weighed.

Dates

Ik comes around every 20 days, because the Tzolkin runs through its 20 day signs in a fixed order, with Imix before it and Akbal after it. Each time it returns it carries a new number from 1 to 13, so one exact pairing of number and sign comes back only every 260 days. The next four Ik days on or after October 23, 2026 are October 31, 2026, November 20, 2026, December 10, 2026 and December 30, 2026. The Long Count completed its 13th b'ak'tun on December 21, 2012, which was 4 Ahau, and the first Ik day after it fell on December 23, 2012. Someone born on June 26, 1974, for example, has Ik as their day sign.

How Cosmic Array reads it

Cosmic Array counts your day sign in the traditional Tzolkin, using the standard GMT correlation (584283) between the Maya Long Count and our calendar, the count that lines up with the one highland daykeepers still keep. The Architect blueprint shows your day sign by its Yucatec name, Ik, and reads it alongside your other ancient calendar signs and the rest of your chart. It shows the sign only, not the number from 1 to 13 that completes a full Tzolkin date. The colour name White Wind comes from the Dreamspell, a modern system created by Jose Arguelles. Dreamspell runs on a different day count, so a Dreamspell calculator may show a different sign for the same birthday.
