Chuen Mayan Day Sign Meaning

Chuen is the eleventh day sign of the Maya Tzolkin, the sign of the monkey, and in K'iche' it is B'atz', the thread. People born on a Chuen day are said to be creative, funny and good with their hands. In the highlands, the day 8 B'atz' is traditionally when new daykeepers are initiated.

What it means

In the Popol Vuh, the brothers One Monkey and One Artisan are musicians, painters and scribes, turned into monkeys by their younger half brothers, the hero twins. Chuen carries their talents: craft, music, play and art. The K'iche' name B'atz' means thread, and daykeepers speak of it as the thread of time and of life, the one a weaver uses to make cloth. Chuen people are read as clever and adaptable, with a good sense of humour and a gift for making something out of whatever they pick up.

Strengths

Creativity, humour, quick learning, skill with craft and music, and a talent for tying loose ends into something whole.

Challenges

Vanity, mischief, scattered attention, and getting tangled in their own thread.

Dates

Chuen comes around every 20 days, because the Tzolkin runs through its 20 day signs in a fixed order, with Oc before it and Eb after it. Each time it returns it carries a new number from 1 to 13, so one exact pairing of number and sign comes back only every 260 days. The next four Chuen days on or after October 23, 2026 are November 9, 2026, November 29, 2026, December 19, 2026 and January 8, 2027. The Long Count completed its 13th b'ak'tun on December 21, 2012, which was 4 Ahau, and the first Chuen day after it fell on January 1, 2013. Someone born on April 1, 1992, for example, has Chuen as their day sign.

How Cosmic Array reads it

Cosmic Array counts your day sign in the traditional Tzolkin, using the standard GMT correlation (584283) between the Maya Long Count and our calendar, the count that lines up with the one highland daykeepers still keep. The Architect blueprint shows your day sign by its Yucatec name, Chuen, and reads it alongside your other ancient calendar signs and the rest of your chart. It shows the sign only, not the number from 1 to 13 that completes a full Tzolkin date. The colour name Blue Monkey comes from the Dreamspell, a modern system created by Jose Arguelles. Dreamspell runs on a different day count, so a Dreamspell calculator may show a different sign for the same birthday.
