What it means
A 1/3 wants to know how something works before trusting it. The first line digs into books, sources and details until there is solid ground underneath. The third line then takes that knowledge out and tries it, and some attempts fail. Those failures are part of the design: each one shows something that doesn't hold up, and over time the 1/3 ends up with knowledge that has been checked twice.
The two lines
A profile is two numbers. The first is the line of your Personality Sun, the part of you that you know and recognise. The second is the line of your Design Sun, which works below awareness and is often easier for other people to see. In the 1/3, the conscious line is the Investigator, who needs a solid foundation and studies a subject until it feels safe to act on. The unconscious line is the Martyr, who learns by trial and error, finding out what works by bumping into what doesn't.
How common it is
About 15 percent of people have a 1/3 profile, one of the six common profiles. It is a right angle profile, which Human Design describes as a personal path: your life unfolds mostly through your own experiences, and other people come and go along the way.
Strengths
Deep research, resilience after setbacks, practical expertise, honesty about what failed, and a foundation other people can rely on.
Challenges
Insecurity when the research feels incomplete, taking mistakes personally, broken plans that feel like proof of failure, and impatience with people who skip the homework.
How Cosmic Array reads it
Your profile comes from two positions of the Sun: where it was when you were born, and where it was 88 degrees earlier, about three months before birth. Cosmic Array calculates both with the Swiss Ephemeris and shows the profile next to your type, strategy and authority in the Architect blueprint. A line covers less than one degree of the Sun's path, so if the Sun was close to the edge of a line, the birth time can change the profile. Without a time, the blueprint uses noon and marks the result as approximate.
