The 3/5 Profile in Human Design

The 3/5 profile in Human Design is the Martyr/Heretic. It combines conscious learning by trial and error with an unconscious pull to turn those lessons into practical help for others. People with this profile try, fail, adjust, and then share what works.

What it means

A 3/5 discovers things by bumping into them. The third line makes and breaks bonds, jobs and plans until it finds what holds. The fifth line, which works below awareness, means other people project onto them and expect answers. The two lines fit together: the 3/5 has tested a lot of things that failed, so they often know what will actually work. The risk is that a failed experiment, seen through someone else's projection, can stick to their reputation.

The two lines

A profile is two numbers. The first is the line of your Personality Sun, the part of you that you know and recognise. The second is the line of your Design Sun, which works below awareness and is often easier for other people to see. In the 3/5, the conscious line is the Martyr, who learns by trial and error, finding out what works by bumping into what doesn't. The unconscious line is the Heretic, who draws other people's projections and is expected to arrive with practical answers.

How common it is

About 15 percent of people have a 3/5 profile, one of the six common profiles. It is a right angle profile, which Human Design describes as a personal path: your life unfolds mostly through your own experiences, and other people come and go along the way.

Strengths

Resilience, adaptability, practical problem solving, and the ability to turn a mess into a lesson others can use.

Challenges

Feeling like everything goes wrong, being blamed when a projection doesn't match reality, restlessness, and leaving things before they settle.

How Cosmic Array reads it

Your profile comes from two positions of the Sun: where it was when you were born, and where it was 88 degrees earlier, about three months before birth. Cosmic Array calculates both with the Swiss Ephemeris and shows the profile next to your type, strategy and authority in the Architect blueprint. A line covers less than one degree of the Sun's path, so if the Sun was close to the edge of a line, the birth time can change the profile. Without a time, the blueprint uses noon and marks the result as approximate.
