The 3/6 Profile in Human Design

The 3/6 profile in Human Design is the Martyr/Role Model. It pairs conscious trial and error with the slow, three-stage life of the sixth line. People with this profile learn through experience early on and grow into a wiser, more detached outlook later.

What it means

The 3/6 runs on two clocks. The third line keeps experimenting all through life. The sixth line adds three stages: an early stretch of trial and error, a middle period from about 30 to 50 spent watching from a distance and taking stock, and a later life spent as an example to others. Because both lines learn from experience, the first 30 years can be especially bumpy. What comes out of it is hard-earned perspective.

The two lines

A profile is two numbers. The first is the line of your Personality Sun, the part of you that you know and recognise. The second is the line of your Design Sun, which works below awareness and is often easier for other people to see. In the 3/6, the conscious line is the Martyr, who learns by trial and error, finding out what works by bumping into what doesn't. The unconscious line is the Role Model, who lives in three stages: trial and error until about 30, a quieter stretch watching from a distance until about 50, then living as an example.

How common it is

About 2 percent of people have a 3/6 profile, one of the six rarer profiles. It is a right angle profile, which Human Design describes as a personal path: your life unfolds mostly through your own experiences, and other people come and go along the way.

Strengths

Experience, adaptability, wisdom that comes from having tried things, and the ability to stay calm in chaos.

Challenges

Pessimism after setbacks, feeling that nothing lasts, pulling back too far in the middle years, and impatience with their own pace.

How Cosmic Array reads it

Your profile comes from two positions of the Sun: where it was when you were born, and where it was 88 degrees earlier, about three months before birth. Cosmic Array calculates both with the Swiss Ephemeris and shows the profile next to your type, strategy and authority in the Architect blueprint. A line covers less than one degree of the Sun's path, so if the Sun was close to the edge of a line, the birth time can change the profile. Without a time, the blueprint uses noon and marks the result as approximate.
