The Chariot as Your Birth Tarot Card

The Chariot as a birth tarot card describes someone here to win through focus, steering opposing forces in one direction. It is card VII of the Major Arcana. Readers see Chariot people as driven and competitive, happiest when there is a clear goal ahead.

What it means

A crowned figure stands in a chariot pulled by two sphinxes, one black and one white, with no reins in his hands. He keeps them moving together by will alone. As a birth card the Chariot describes a life of momentum: moving house, changing jobs, travelling, pushing through obstacles. Chariot people often carry two pulls going different ways, and their strength comes from harnessing both. The lesson is control without armour. The charioteer has to steer, but sometimes he also has to step down and let people see him.

Strengths

Determination, ambition, self-discipline and the ability to keep going after others stop.

Challenges

Restlessness, feelings kept behind armour, treating life as a race, and a short fuse when blocked.

With its partner cards

The Chariot often stands alone, and otherwise it sits under the Tower. That pairing is read as a test of direction: sudden upheavals knock the chariot off course, and the person learns to build momentum again from whatever is left standing. Few people get more practice at starting over.

When it is your birth card

Greer's method adds the month, day and full year, then adds the digits until the total is 22 or less. In her terms the higher card of a pair is the Personality card and the lower one the Soul card. Between 1900 and 2030, the Chariot is a birth card for 11 percent of birthdays, about one in nine. It comes up in two ways: on its own as a single card (7.2 percent of birthdays, and only from December 31, 1926 on); and as the Soul card under the Tower, 16 and 7 (3.9 percent of birthdays). That share holds steady in every decade, because the last card of any set is the date's total reduced to a single figure, and those spread evenly from 1 to 9. For example, someone born on August 16, 1981 adds 8 + 16 + 1981 = 2005, then 2 + 0 + 0 + 5 = 7. That gives the Chariot (7).

How Cosmic Array reads it

Cosmic Array works out your birth cards from your date of birth alone with Greer's method, so no birth time is needed. The Architect blueprint lists them by name in the same panel as your Life Path, and the two always line up. A set that ends in the Chariot always goes with a Life Path of 7, because both reduce the same birthday digits.
