What it means
The Reed month begins in late October and takes in Samhain, the old festival when the year turned toward winter and the dead were said to come close. Reed people are read as fitting that season: drawn to mysteries, hidden motives and the parts of life other people avoid. They are natural researchers and good at reading people, and they rarely reveal everything they know. Once they trust you, they are loyal and fiercely honest with you.
Strengths
Investigation, perception, the ability to keep a confidence, honesty once trust is earned, and courage around hard truths.
Challenges
Secrecy that shuts people out, suspicion, a taste for drama, and holding grudges.
Reed dates and Ogham letter
Reed runs from October 28 to November 24 (28 days). Its Ogham letter is Ngetal, the letter for the sound NG. The dates come from the tree calendar Robert Graves set out in The White Goddess (1948): thirteen 28-day months named after Ogham letters in his Beth-Luis-Nion order, plus one spare day, December 23. It is a modern system inspired by the Ogham, not a calendar recorded from the ancient Druids, and scholars think only some of the Ogham letter names first meant trees. On the Western calendar, Reed starts in Scorpio and the Sun moves into Sagittarius around November 22, so roughly the first 25 days are Scorpio Suns and the last 3 are Sagittarius.
The reed in folklore
Reeds were cut for thatch, arrows and pens, and a reed pen is a good emblem for a sign about getting to the truth and writing it down. The letter is spelled nGetal in older Irish, and the plant it names is uncertain: medieval scholars called it reed or broom. Reeds grow in water with their roots in the mud, and the tradition reads the sign the same way, at home in deep, murky places.
How Cosmic Array reads it
Your tree depends only on the day and month you were born, so the year and birth time don't change it. The Architect blueprint shows your Celtic tree next to your Chinese animal, Mayan sign and Egyptian deity, and its written synthesis can set the tree against your Western Sun, Moon and Rising.
