What it means
A full moon with a face hangs between two towers. Below, a dog and a wolf howl at it, and a crayfish crawls out of a pool onto a winding path. Nothing is quite clear in this light. As a birth card the Moon points to a life lived partly in the half-seen: art, dreams, hunches, family secrets, the unconscious. The Golden Dawn links it with Pisces. Moon people often pick up on things before they can name them. The lesson is to walk the path anyway, trusting instinct while checking which fears are real.
Strengths
Imagination, empathy, intuition, artistic gifts and comfort with uncertainty.
Challenges
Anxiety, confusion about what is real, escapism, and moods that come and go with little warning.
With its partner cards
The Moon always comes with the Hermit as its Soul card. The Hermit's lantern answers the Moon's dim light: one card brings confusion and dreams, the other brings the patience to search them for meaning. Readers often see this pairing in counsellors, writers and people who study the mind.
When it is your birth card
Greer's method adds the month, day and full year, then adds the digits until the total is 22 or less. In her terms the higher card of a pair is the Personality card and the lower one the Soul card. Between 1900 and 2030, the Moon is a birth card for 5.3 percent of birthdays. It always comes as the Personality card over the Hermit, 18 and 9. How often it turns up depends heavily on birth year, since the year makes up almost all of the total: 11 percent of birthdays from 1900 to 1959, 1.5 percent of birthdays from 1960 to 1999 and no birthdays from 2000 to 2030. The last birthday in that span to produce the Moon is January 1, 1978. Nobody born after that, through 2030, has it, and the next birthday that does is December 31, 2036. For example, someone born on January 4, 1975 adds 1 + 4 + 1975 = 1980, then 1 + 9 + 8 + 0 = 18, then 1 + 8 = 9. That gives the Moon and the Hermit (18 and 9).
How Cosmic Array reads it
Cosmic Array works out your birth cards from your date of birth alone with Greer's method, so no birth time is needed. The Architect blueprint lists them by name in the same panel as your Life Path, and the two always line up. A set with the Moon always ends in the Hermit, which goes with a Life Path of 9, because both reduce the same birthday digits.
